Which bait to use

Deciding which bait to use is a little different from using a snap trap. When you use humane traps the bait is inside and the mouse often cannot see it. For this reason you need to use something with a nice smell to encourage the mice to go inside.

• Peanut butter: mice love it and the smell will encourage them to go in to the trap to get to it.
• Strong cheese: if you plan to use cheese, make sure it gives off a strong smell so the mice can pick it up.

Setting up a humane trap

Setting up a trap couldn’t be easier.

Humane traps will have a lid or sliding bait tray where you place the bait.

Then all you do is close the lid, and it’s ready. Some traps use a trap door, and on these you simply click the door down and it will release when the mouse trips the trigger.

Traps should always be placed against the wall, with the opening closest to it. When the mouse goes inside to get the bait, the door will close behind it and it won’t be able to get out.
